Professional level studio. A comprehensive study of building codes, construction and building technology, and site response through Schematic Design.
This project was an opportunity to study in more depth how a building is assembled and kept within code requirements. Previous studios focused on the design concept and graphic development, whereas this project required more research and care in terms of structures, materials, and assemblies.
To that end, a great deal of effort went into researching vendor-specific capabilities of CLT and GluLam. Furthermore, interviews with fire department inspectors and librarians lent user insight on how a public building of this size is accessed for both daily use and emergency management.
